APEXX Vacuum Brazed Countersink Core Bit – 1-3/8 in., 1-1/2 in. Tapered Rim, 5/8 in.-11
The APEXX Vacuum Brazed Countersink Core Bit is a 1-3/8 in. diamond core bit with a 1-1/2 in. tapered diamond rim and a 5/8 in.-11 female thread, used to drill a hole and cut its countersink in one pass on an angle grinder or hand core drill. Ocean Diamond publishes it for dry or wet use on porcelain tile, ultra-compact surfaces, marble, engineered stone, granite and natural quartzite.
This is the narrow-rim version of the 1-3/8 in. bit. Ocean Diamond also makes a 1-3/8 in. countersink with a 2 in. rim under a separate item number; the 1-1/2 in. rim here leaves only a 1/16 in. bevel each side of the hole, for a faucet or fixing hole that needs a small chamfer rather than a wide flared seat. The bit threads 5/8 in.-11, so it is a hand-tool core bit, not a CNC tool: for a 1/2 in. Gas CNC spindle use the APEXX CNC Blind-Hole Bit – 1/4 in. (6.5 mm), 1/2 Gas or an APEXX thin-wall CNC core bit instead.
Key Features
- 1-3/8 in. core bit diameter
- 1-1/2 in. tapered rim diameter
- 5/8 in.-11 female thread
- Vacuum-brazed diamond on both the barrel and the tapered rim
- Drills the hole and cuts the countersink in one operation
- Dry or wet use
- Ocean Diamond materials: porcelain tile, ultra-compact surfaces, marble, engineered stone, granite, natural quartzite
Who Is This For?
Fabricators and installers drilling 1-3/8 in. faucet and fixing holes who want a light chamfer on the top edge so the hole does not chip when the hardware is fitted, especially in porcelain and ultra-compact where a sharp hole edge is fragile.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the two 1-3/8 in. countersink bits?
The rim. This bit has a 1-1/2 in. tapered rim for a small chamfer; Ocean Diamond's other 1-3/8 in. countersink bit has a 2 in. rim for a wide flared seat. Both drill the same 1-3/8 in. hole.
What thread is it?
5/8 in.-11 female, the standard angle-grinder and hand core-drill thread. It is not a 1/2 in. Gas CNC bit.
Wet or dry?
Ocean Diamond specifies dry or wet use. Water is recommended on porcelain and ultra-compact to keep the brazed rim cool.
Which materials?
Ocean Diamond lists porcelain tile, ultra-compact surfaces, marble, engineered stone, granite and natural quartzite.
How deep does it countersink?
The taper runs from the 1-3/8 in. barrel out to 1-1/2 in. at the rim, so the chamfer is about 1/16 in. wide on each side. Plunge until the rim just touches the surface for a clean bevel.
