The ASI 502 100% RTV Silicone Caulk in translucent charcoal is a one-component, moisture cure, acetoxy silicone in a 10.2 oz. caulking cartridge, curing to a durable rubber for interior and exterior joints.

Key Features

  • One-component acetoxy silicone that cures on atmospheric moisture alone. Nothing is mixed and no hardener is added.
  • American Sealants publishes the cured rubber as able to withstand a variety of extreme environments.
  • 10.2 oz. caulking cartridge for a standard cartridge caulking gun.
  • Translucent charcoal is on the published ASI 502 color list, printed there as transcharcoal. It is a made-to-order color, not a stock color.
  • Translucent, not opaque: the bead reads as a tinted line rather than a solid block of color.

Who Is This For?

Fabricators and installers joining dark or heavily veined stone, dark tile and charcoal-toned surfaces, where an opaque black or gray bead would read as a stripe. Typical work is sink rails, backsplash joints and shower returns.

What This Is Not For

This is a silicone and will not take paint. Where the joint has to be painted over, ASI 174 Siliconized Acrylic Latex Caulk is the paintable sealant in the American Sealants range, published in white and clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is translucent charcoal a genuine ASI 502 color?

Yes. The American Sealants ASI 502 color list prints transcharcoal, without a space, alongside trans beige, trans earth, trans gray, trans rose and trans white.

What is the difference between translucent charcoal and black?

Translucent colors let the substrate show through the bead so the joint reads as a tint; black is an opaque stock color that reads as a solid line. American Sealants publishes both for ASI 502.

Does it need a special gun?

No. ASI 502 ships in a 10.2 oz. caulking cartridge, which loads into an ordinary cartridge caulking gun.

What is the cure chemistry?

ASI 502 100% RTV Silicone is a one-component, moisture cure, acetoxy silicone. Acetoxy cure releases acetic acid during cure, which is the vinegar smell in a freshly tooled bead.
