The ELEMENT Dry/Wet Core Bit is a 2-1/4 in. T-segment core bit for drilling through-holes in slab, on a 5/8 in.-11 thread, supplied with brazed diamond side protection inside and outside the barrel. Ocean Diamond specifies wet use only on engineered stone and quartz, and dry or wet use on other materials; the 2-1/4 in. size is rated to a 4,000 RPM maximum, lower than the 6,500 RPM of the 2 in. and smaller bits. It is a heat-resistant metal-bond bit whose T-shaped segments are designed to stop segments coming off under dry use.

Engineered stone and quartz are wet-only on this bit whatever the line name says — the dry-or-wet instruction applies to granite and quartzite. Side protection is not universal across the family: the 2-1/4 in. bit has it, while the neighbouring 2-3/8 in. and 2-1/2 in. bits do not. For ultra-compact and Dekton, use the APEXX Green Thin-Wall Core Bit – 2-1/4 in., 5/8 in.-11, for Porcelain & Ultra-Compact; for marble and porcelain, the APEXX Vacuum Brazed Marble & Porcelain Core Bit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What diameter is it?

The core bit is 2-1/4 in. in diameter, on a 5/8 in.-11 thread.

Can it be used dry on quartz?

No. Ocean Diamond specifies wet use only on engineered stone and quartz. Dry or wet use applies to the other materials.

Does this bit have side protection?

Yes. The 2-1/4 in. bit carries brazed diamond protection along the barrel, inside and outside; the 2-3/8 in. and 2-1/2 in. bits in the same line do not.

What speed should it run?

4,000 RPM maximum for the 2-1/4 in. size. The smaller bits in the line, up to 2 in., are rated to 6,500 RPM, so do not carry a small-bit speed onto this one.

What does side protection do?

Diamond along the barrel keeps the bit cutting cleanly if it rubs the side of the hole, rather than wearing the steel.
