The Alpha Rigid Backer Pad is a 4 in. hook-and-loop backer pad with a 5/8 in.-11 thread, used to drive hook-and-loop polishing discs from a grinder or wet polisher. Alpha lists the rigid backer pads separately from the flexible pads — they are different part numbers, not one pad with two names.

A backer pad carries hook-and-loop discs only. It will not hold Snail Lock tooling — for that use the Alpha PVA Quick Change Snail Lock Adapter or the Alpha SFAT Snail Lock Adapter. If you need the flexible version instead, Alpha builds it in 3, 4 and 5 in.

Key Features

  • 4 in. diameter
  • 5/8 in.-11 thread
  • Hook and loop face
  • Alpha rigid backer pad — a separate Alpha part number from the flexible pad
  • Alpha builds the rigid pads in 4 and 5 in.

Who Is This For?

Fabricators and installers running hook-and-loop polishing discs — Alpha Ceramica Resin, Ceramica EX, Ceramica Buff, Alpha Sandpaper Discs — from a 5/8 in.-11 grinder or wet polisher.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thread does it need?

A standard 5/8 in.-11 grinder or polisher spindle.

Flexible or rigid — which one do I want?

A rigid pad holds the disc flat, which suits flat surfaces and straight edges. A flexible pad lets the disc follow a shaped or curved edge. Alpha sells them as separate part numbers so you can keep both on the bench.

Which discs fit it?

Any hook-and-loop disc of the same diameter. In this catalogue that includes Alpha Ceramica Resin, Alpha Ceramica EX, Alpha Ceramica Buff and Alpha Sandpaper Discs.

Does it take Snail Lock wheels?

No. Snail Lock tooling needs a Snail Lock adapter, not a hook-and-loop backer pad.
