The VSM CK721X Silicon Carbide Sandpaper Disc is a 7 in. cloth-backed sanding disc with a 7/8 in. arbor hole in 80 grit, supplied 50 per box, for sanding and refining stone, glass, ceramic, composites and steel. VSM publishes CK721X as a silicon carbide grain on a sturdy X-weight cloth, full-resin bonded and closed coated, waterproof and oil-resistant.
Compared with the paper-backed VSM CP501 disc in the same size and grit, the cloth backing tears less on edges and tolerates wet use. It is still a coated abrasive: it sands and refines a surface but will not grind hard stone flat or take out a saw cut. For that use a diamond tool such as the SIERRA Resin-Filled Diamond Cup Wheel, 4 in.

No. CP501 is VSM's silicon carbide on paper backing. CK721X is silicon carbide on X-weight cloth, which is tougher and can be used wet.
