Questions fabricators ask
What is the best bridge saw blade for quartz?
For engineered quartz and granite, a 25mm-segment blade run wet is the standard. The BRUIN has been tested past 300 slabs on quartz used exclusively, at cutting speeds up to 300 in./min on engineered stone and 200 in./min on natural stone. Blade life on quartz depends heavily on staying within those feed rates and keeping water on the cut.
What is the difference between an electroplated blade and a sintered blade?
An electroplated blade bonds a single layer of diamonds directly to the steel core, which gives a very thin kerf and clean cuts in soft material like marble, limestone and travertine, but a shorter life. A sintered blade has diamonds impregnated through multiple layers of a metal matrix, so it lasts far longer and is the right choice for granite and quartz.
Can a 3-step polishing system really replace a 7-step sequence?
On most engineered and natural stone, yes. A hybrid 3-step set uses more aggressive early positions and a resin blend that closes the surface faster, which is where the roughly 30 percent time reduction comes from. Very hard or badly scratched material may still want a dedicated aggressive pass first.
What blade should I use to cut porcelain tile without chipping?
A turbo mesh rim blade designed for ultra-compact material, run slowly, with the tile supported right up to the cut line. Which backer pad should I use for an ogee edge?
A super flexible pad. Standard flexible pads bridge across a tight concave profile and polish unevenly. For flat surfaces and staircases the rigid pad is better, because a soft pad leaves a wavy finish on anything meant to read as flat.
Do I need different tools for quartzite than for granite?
Often, yes. Quartzite is harder and more abrasive than granite and tends to glaze a bond that is too hard, which shows up as slow cutting and a hazy finish. Bond choice matters more than diamond quality on quartzite. Call the counter and we will tell you what actually holds up.
